Students for Fred Thompson

Hello WI College Republicans!

I have just returned from a trip to Iowa to hear former Sen. Fred Dalton Thompson speak at a campaign rally in Mason City, Iowa. I am pleased to report that Fred was steadfast and eloquent as he outlined his plan for conservative governance of this country. In addition, Fred was energized and ready to go, and did not look anything like the lazy person some in the media have been trying to portray him as.
Some of the highlights from Fred's speech included him explaining how he has been a conservative person his whole life, from the beginning of his career on the Watergate Committee, throughout his time in the U.S. Senate and now as a candidate for President. Fred said, .“That’s who I was then, that’s who I am today and that’s who I’ll be tomorrow.“Where I stand doesn’t depend on where I’m standing,” he said. Fred concluded by asking voters to think about who they would want representing the United State in today's volatile world. “When our worst enemy is sitting on one side of the negotiating table, who do you want sitting on the other side?” he asked.
In summation, Fred's tour in Iowa seems to be picking up steam and to parphrase Mark Twain, reports of Fred's demise have been greatly exaggerated by the Drive-By Media. Team Fred is definitely competing in Iowa, and in many states across the United States, and with the race looking more and more uncertain everyday, I don't think anyone can tell you who is going to win the nomination at this point.

I have recently contacted the Thompson campaign and agreed to serve as the State Coordinator for Students for Fred in our state. The reason I have done this is because of my firm belief that Fred Thompson is the most conservative candidate running today who can also win the general election. As noted by the Wall Street Journal and National Review, Fred is the only major candidate to come out with specific policy proposals to increase the size of the military, move to a flat tax, and make social security solvent. Even Rush Limbaugh, who does not endorse in primaries, has noted that Fred is the most consistently conservative major candidate in the race.

If you would like to start a Students for Fred chapter at your school, or get involved with the state network, please contact me at burtontb@uwec.edu or else join the "WI Students for Fred Thompson" facebook group. The way this race is headed, WI may actually be a player this year, so don't hesitate to get involved!

Thanks!
